Call to restart Glasgow Airport rail link voted down
Fallout from a decision to axe the Glasgow Airport Rail Link continues to ripple in political circles as MSPs debate the Scottish budget.

Labour members are pushing for the link to be reinstated in the budget but both the SNP and Conservatives blocked the move.

The SNP claim that this years budget is £800m less than forecast in 2007 necessitating a cutbacks, although Labour claim this is only because money has been brought forward from future projects.

How can we have three city airports, edinburgh, glasgow and aberdeen, and non of them have a train link? What a joke!

I agree - and GARL could have been the destination for 2 of the Edinburgh-Bathgate-Airdrie-Glasgow services, with the other 2 running to Prestwick Airport and Ayr. This would have transfomed travel options to/from Glasgow Airport and central Scotland. The suggestion was made (by me, if not others) in previous consultations. Unfortunately, our transport planners seem never to have used rail links from Manchester, Gatwick, Schipol, Berlin Schonefeld, and Frankfurt -all excellent !
