Hotel Indigo beats recession blues
Hotel Indigo, a division of hotels operator Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) has signed two new properties in Glasgow and Liverpool. The chain devised the brand as a means to marry the bespoke offering of boutique hotels whilst retaining advantage of being part of a larger whole.

In Glasgow ICA Architects will transform a former power station and office block (heavily altered in the 1930’s) on Waterloo St with the addition of a setback glazed penthouse floor.

Finance was secured for the scheme despite a still tough climate due to the shortened delivery times and reduced costs inherent to refurbishment.

Comprising 96 bedrooms construction is ongoing on the £11.5m hotel which is scheduled to open by mid 2010 and will be operated by Chardon Management on behalf of IHG. It is the second hotel to commence construction in as many months for the city following citizenM on renfrew Street.
