Archials demolition of Balfour Stewart House approved
Archial have secured planning permission for a £35m redevelopment of Balfour Stewart House, Edinburgh, to provide 72 homes and 56 flats complete with underground parking.

Designed by RMJM the former brewery HQ has split architectural opinion on its relative merits but it was the difficulty in securing tenants which prompted developer Rumney Manor to start from scratch.

Archial stress an understanding of topography and the surrounding conservation area in their approach by retaining an existing stone wall and mature trees.

It is sad to see the offices go from our area but they were in the wrong place, A Residential Street.

This new building will look rather different but should suit the area perfectly, Providing Great Homes for people in Murrayfield.

Really? Anyone with a real interest in quality architecture I suspect won't agree. It's very bad indeed.

The RMJM building (in a conservation area) should have stayed. Exactly why it was given permission for demolition could do with some investigation.
