NHS Lothian splashes the cash
NHS Lothian, the largest employer in the Lothians,  has announced plans to spend, spend, spend on hospitals, premises and equipment in £888m of largesse over the next 10 years.

An active role will also be played in the separate BioQuarter development at Little France, designed to cluster biotechnology enterprises around the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, the Royal Hospital for Sick Children and the University of Edinburgh’s Medical School.

The public body see themselves as stewards of the economy and are keen to press ahead with employment and investment plans at a time of recession, it being felt that the investment programme may benefit from competitive conditions in the construction industry, offsetting any downturn in property sales

NHS Lothian’s plan calls for a hospital for children and young people, a medicine for the elderly hospital, a Midlothian hospital, a community treatment centre in east Lothian and a number of new and refurbished health centres by 2018/19.
