Perthshire estate prioritises the burgeoning outdoor market

A historic Perthshire estate dating from 1664 has put forward a diversification strategy to cater for the leisure and outdoor pursuits market.

Murrayshall House near Scone currently operates as a hotel set within 365 acres, including two golf courses, gardens and woodland. Early plans call for a possible hotel extension and holiday lodges as well as the creation of a cafe, spa and leisure facilities. A delivery hub, solar array and a residential element are also being investigated.

An indicative consultation hosted by Stellar Asset Management sets out how these changes would take effect in phases, with 19 glamping pods planned for an adjacent tennis court - to be replaced at a later date by 1 50-bed extension. Up to 40 self-catering lodges, a 'landmark' spa and leisure facility and a central delivery, staff and services hub to reduce congestion.

In a statement, the applicant wrote: "The estate requires investment to adapt and thrive in the post-Covid leisure and tourism market. To deliver the leisure-led development proposals to expand and enhance the hotel and its facilities, some cross-subsidy uses will most likely be required, potentially from residential development in the estate."

A formal planning application is expected from Fergus Purdie Architects by spring 2023.

I know it's petty, but I'm a stickler for consistent shadows.

Unless the joke is on me and the development is on one of the moons of Endor?
