04 _ St Vincent Plaza, Glasgow

Commissioned by client Abstract Group, St Vincent Plaza creates a unique new public realm space in Glasgow associated with the landmark new Grade A office development on St Vincent Street in the city centre, delivered by Newcastle based contractors Bowmer and Kirkland.

The scheme brings new vibrancy to the IFSD central business quarter of the city in the form of a new public realm link connecting St Vincent Street to William Street and the Hilton Hotel. The new terraced pedestrian space forms a significant new piece of public realm within the city. The landmark building features a striking granite and glazed façade which is complimented by Caithness stone, granite aggregate paving and integral feature lighting - all of which adds value to the exceptional work space and a wider contribution to the city’s urban landscape.

Lighting is a key part of the scheme with a focus on creating a safe, well lit public realm link. Up-lighting to the M8 underpass and new feature signage will form part of the gateway to the space, helping define St Vincent Plaza as Glasgow's premier business address. Achieving a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating, the development focusses on the use of sustainable and high quality materials within the public realm.

Raised planters create the series of terraces and include native tree and shrub planting which will give seasonal interest to the space and enhancement to the ecology of the area. In a related project, LDA are also assisted Abstract and Bowmer and Kirkland in gifting the locally based Oakgrove Primary School new play elements and feature planting to improve their existing playground environs.
