3) Barrhead, Carlibar Park

Erz were appointed by East Renfrewshire Council to undertake a study of Carlibar and Centenary parks, to explore how the use of these spaces in the urban core of Barrhead can be increased. The great potential of these strategically well located riverside spaces is largely unrealised at present. The parks closely parallel Main Street but are not visible, are separated by significant level changes and are surrounded by `dead edges` (blank elevations, walls and fences). The study examines the historical evolution of Barrhead and also takes account of anticipated changes. The study generates a clear strategy and master-plan proposals to stitch the parks into the fabric of the town centre and to redefine them as a focus of public and civic life in Barrhead.
