Laurieston regeneration continues with plans for further homes

A joint venture between McTaggart Construction and Robertson the project will see 28 new homes created within two blocks immediately adjacent to the A-listed British Linen Bank on Gorbals Street, which is itself set to be converted by Page\Park.
Conceived as a continuation of an earlier phase of work delivered by Stallan Brand the latest project will include a communal close to its northern elevation with views across to a linear park through curtain wall glazing.
In their design statement the architects observed: “Full brick reveals will add depth to the north and west facing façades, whilst feature curtain walling to the communal core will ensure visual interest to this prominent facade.”
To that end buff and red brick has been specified as a finishing material with full brick reveals imparting a sense of depth.
Properties will be arranged across two separate blocks
Residents will benefit from recessed balconies

Very brown, very stark with little joy. Big foreheards again. Am I missing something?..why do all the new cuts' paste brick apartment blocks in Glasgow have humongous, bland upper storey's. Surely its not all needed for run off gradient. Couldn't that zone be used to form roofscape or some sort of shapery. Even random shape-making would be better than this effort. Lauriston is beginning to look like a super prison...

would've preferred a different material to the red brick on the extension.

I dunno StyleCouncil, the building book-ending the British Linen Bank has clearly had a bit of thought put into it and counter-balances the reinstated Glasgow style roof quite well while handling a difficult transition to the Page\Park housing for New Gorbals HA.
That said Laurieston is heavily dependent on good details, proportions, brick selection and landscaping. Lose the shrubs and trees and it would start looking bleak.
A bit of joy in the form of some ornament would not go amiss and Anderson Bell Christie have worked well with artists like Alexander Hamilton on the corten steel ornamental screens at the Shields Centre in the recent past.
However, if you want to see a scheme which genuinely looks like a super prison look no further than than the delightfully named ‘Utopia’ development on Barrland Street just to the south.
Quite the worst pre-recession development I’ve seen in Glasgow and, alas, plans for the missing block on Pollokshaws Road have just been resurrected:

At least Laurieston has windows and front gardens addressing the street. This just has banal car park louvres = so much for placemaking. I’d rather the gap site was kept as some much needed local greenspace thanks.
