Perth Theatre is star of the show at official reopening
Perth Theatre is back in action following a two-year hiatus following a £16.6m refurbishment that has been four years in the making.

In that time Doolan-prize winning architects Richard Murphy, Simpson & Brown Architects and theatre operator Horsecross Arts have been busy overhauling the 500-seat B-listed Edwardian auditorium while contructing a new exterior, box office, café, bar and shop.

This work has seen the upper circle reinstated together with improvements to seating, sightlines, ventilation and lighting. It will be complemented by a newly built 200-seat studio theatre for smaller scale performances.

Gwilym Gibbons, chief executive of Horsecross Arts, commented: “The Perth Theatre transformation has secured the future of one of Scotland’s most historic and culturally significant landmarks for many generations to enjoy.

“I would like to thank everyone involved in the process – our partners at Perth & Kinross Council, funders the Gannochy Trust, Creative Scotland, the Heritage Lottery Fund and other trusts, foundations and individuals, as well as our architects, suppliers and contractors and all who have worked on this amazing building.”

All floors lift access will improve accessibility, which now addresses Mill Street by way of a sheath of glass/acrylic cladding illuminated through use of edge lighting.
