Speirs Locks to become new canalside quarter
Make have prepared a preferred masterplan for the Speirs Locks canalside area for development partners ISIS and British Waterways.  the Locks act as centrepiece of the Port Dundas Canal Link which reconnects the Forth and Clyde Canal to Port Dundas Basin via a 100ft wide floodlit waterfall over granite.  The £100 million scheme aims to rejuvenate 1,000 acres of prime land at the historic canalside location

In rehabilitating this important location Make aim to engender a self sufficient community.  This is achieved through provision of a healthy mix of hotels, 250 homes and 100,000sq/ft of new business space in phase 1.  A combination of linear "fingers" direct pedestrian and visual flow alongside perimeter courtyards and terraces, actively encouraging outdoor play.  These features are peppered by mid rise elements for visual stimulus, reinforcing the urban edge as buffer and marker to motorway traffic, noise and pollution.

East, west and north, south axial orientation aims to emphasise links between canalside and Garscube Rd whilst maximising daylight penetration from the southern sun to garden areas. Plans call for a bridge to be constructed across the canal and a pedestrian route from Cowcaddens underground to the Locks to better integrate the masterplan area to the city.
