Student specialist takes the reins at Old Town stables
Student housing specialist Empiric is to take the lead on a planned redevelopment of Edinburgh’s King’s Road Stables after it acquired land for a166-bed build.

The developer has now entered into a forward funding agreement to deliver the £26.6m facility which will entail clearance of existing structures to make way for the studio-only scheme and associated shared facilities.

The student dorms form just one element of a wider Fletcher Joseph masterplan for the former Stables which will see Peveril Securities take the lead on a wider mixed-use project; including 59 homes, an arts hub, 92-bed hotel and ground floor retail.
Proposed buildings will be finished in sandstone and brick with grey-clad setback upper levels.

Planning permission for the project was granted in July last year.

#1, never been to Edinburgh? It's a close. Or a narrow side street.
