£13m Dumbarton Care Home opens
West Dumbarton Council has taken possession of a £13m care home in Dumbarton delivered by Cooper Cromar and Hub West Scotland.

The 23,000sq/m brick and block build occupies the site of the former Crosslet House and offers 84 ensuite bedrooms arranged in seven-bedroom clusters alongside around common facilities to offer a more domestic scale environment.

Project architect Kevin Fitzpatrick said: "The design was led in conjunction with the client and West Dumbartonshire Council, who set out from the beginning a desire for a ‘less clinical', more ‘domestic' and ‘dementia friendly' environment, in particular for the residential portion – in the houses, bedrooms and common rooms.

"We had to coordinate the architecture and interior design to maintain high levels of dementia-friendly design and meet the stringent statutory Building Control requirements in terms of fire safety and escape. And the client's requirements for high levels of acoustic performance, controlling the sound between rooms, was beyond what was expected by Building Control."

The internal fit-out was carried out by Brian Hendry Interiors; including installation of 3,500sq/ft of Armstrong’s drywall grid system.
