Work gets underway at £17m Gorbals Health Centre
NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, together with Glasgow City Council, have begun work on a new health & care centre serving the Gorbals district of the city.

Gorbals Health & Care Centre is one of a series of new health hubs the facility is being delivered by Morgan Sindall to designs by JM Architects on Sandiefield Road and will host a mix of services including four GP surgeries, a dental practice, social services, treatment rooms and community space.

By supplanting outdated facililities from the 1970s and introducing a range of new clinical services the centre aims to reduce hospital pressures by providing more community-level care. Delivered in tandem with Page\Park’s Woodside Health & Care Centre on Doncaster Street the project follows on from completion of similar builds at Eastwood and Maryhill.

David Williams, chief officer, Glasgow Health & Social Care Partnership (HSCP), commented: “The Gorbals and Woodside are two of Glasgow’s most deprived communities, with some of the worst health outcomes in Scotland. The new centres are being specifically designed in a way which will help further break down the barriers between services and help to create a seamless pathway between services for patients and service users.”

Gorbals and Woodside will open their doors by the end of 2018.

The amount of parking looks pitiful. For me as a wheelchair user, that's the worst aspect of the current site, but it doesn't look like this is going to be an improvement.

Better late than never I suppose. That bundle of four health centres were all supposed to be finished years ago.

I don’t see many parking bays in the drawings for the new health centre, which is a big concern,as it is bad enough at the moment never mind when the centre is in full swing.

Apart from the proposed parking within the marked boundary, it sits right next to the huge Co-op car park.
