Excavations begin on next phase of Chapelton
Elsick Development Company have commenced excavation work on the latest phase of development at Chapelton, the largest planned New Town in Scotland at 4,000 homes.

JCB’s have moved in to begin the laborious task of shifting 250,000 tonnes of soil and rock five miles south of Aberdeen to facilitate the construction of new homes and a commercial centre; including the Liddell Hut community centre.

The Duke of Fife, director of Elsick Development Company, commented: “The excavation is an exciting stage in the development of Chapelton and one which will bring many opportunities. Along with new properties, the next phase will offer a range of facilities which will serve the community as well as those living in neighbouring areas such as Portlethen and Newtonhill.

“The excavation has been designed to avoid the need to peck rock, which can be a slow, noisy operation, as far as possible. The digging and even the blasting should allow the work to proceed with the least disruption to local residents.”

An initial phase of 100 homes including a tea room, nursery and salon has already been occupied.

This image shows a missed opportunity, to move to stone dyke to the edge of the road with a grinding margin, and the footpath moved away from the road and integrated with the green space to provide a much more pleasant route.

They need to make sure that they will hire a good excavating contractor.
