A-listed Glasgow shipbuilder HQ to be turned into apart-hotel

This would occupy vacant floors, the condition of which has placed the structure on the Buildings at Risk Register, from the first level upwards and include a single storey set back rooftop extension.
In seeking listed building consent the architects propose to retain as many original features as possible including a white Doulton Carrara ware façade; marble and timber paneling, cornice work, glazed wall tiling and terrazzo floors.
To minimise intrusion of the new extension the architects will set the floorplate back to create south and east facing terraces and allow existing chimmneys and decorative urns to be retained.

Sounds good and my faith in developers will be restored if they reconstruct a replica of the demolished building down on the Clyde. Sad to see the old 'What every woman wants' building just up from the Radisson in such a sad state. This building with a good bit of TLC would make a fabulous hotel in the financial district. At the moment is stands out for all the wrong reasons in an area with a lot of investment. Great location for a hotel within the IDF and transport links to the SECC/Hydro , gateway to the Highlands and Edinburgh a train ride away. My fear is it may face demolition if it continues to be neglected.

Just a pedantic point, but the Anchor Line wasn't a shipbuilding company, it was a shipping line operating transatlantic passenger liners. The Anchor Line did have an early partnership share in the D&W Henderson shipyard at Meadowside. The main office of that former shipyard was recently demolished by Peel Ports after a fire/arson attack. The building had been slated for conversion to student flats and I have heard that Peel plan to rebuild it to the original design, though I remain sceptical about that claim.
