Preparatory works underway for Dundee sport hub
Preparatory work has begun for a new Regional Performance Centre for Sport within Dundee's Caird Park, to designs by the city council's design and property department, ahead of its opening by year's end.

The £17m hub will offer training and competitive facilities for a range of sports and clubs as well as providing a new training base for Dundee FC. Facilities will include a hub building offering a sports hall, café, conference rooms, performance suite and sports science labs as well as full-size indoor 3G pitches, energy centre, upgraded velodrome and grass pitches.

In a supporting statement the council set out the challenges facing them: “The scale of the project needs to be delivered within an open park environment incorporating 4 different buildings of varying scales, in close proximity to important woodland and a listed building whilst still providing spaces of a given and rigid dimension within an economic and efficient envelope. In addition to responding to these influences the buildings must also provide a strong visual identity which must both set them apart from and reflect the park.”

To accommodate this brief the main hub will be ‘anchored’ with a base course of dark grey glazed brick with massing above broken down with large green and red cladding panels overlaid with white lines intended to be reminiscent of ‘lane or pitch markings’.

A separate athletics building will consist of an ‘air dome’ above a concrete plinth and zinc cladding
Athletics will take place in the shadow of Mains Castle

It's a good idea and doesn't have to be sexy as hell, merely functional and not an eyesore. This fits the bill.
Plus, as a football fan, I understand Dundee United (Dundee FC as well?) will be using it as their training base when it's built and a club United's size should have good quality training facilities.
