Fresh batch of Edinburgh homes submitted for planning
A detailed planning application has been submitted to erect 122 homes at South Fort Street, Edinburgh, by Barratt Homes and the Blake Group.

Designed by EMA Architects the project will further ongoing regeneration in the Bonnington area of the city by providing new frontages to existing streets and a central civic space.

A new pedestrian and cycle route will also be threaded through, improving connections to an existing cycle network to the north.

In a statement the architects wrote: “The architectural style will be contemporary, however design cues and materials chosen will reflect the rich industrial heritage of the surrounding area. Simple solid forms and repeating elements are not unlike the mills, foundries and warehouses once located throughout the Bonnington district. White render and buff bricks also echo these industrial buildings and stone used in traditional Edinburgh tenement.”

EMA submitted a separate application for the south east corner of the site, under separate ownership, back in February.

Utterly hopeless. That white render is going to more brown smear in a matter of months.

The development itself, in principle? Great, fine, no problem. But WHITE RENDER?! Has no one paid any attention to the countless builds over the decades using white render that quickly turn various shades of shite because of the weather?
Seriously now; come on! Enough with the white feckin render. Get creative.
What goes through their minds at the drawing board? It's Scotland! White render NEVER works here.

References to industrial heritage! This is standard fare. Link to National cycle network, not evident from plan. Usual spin not reflected in what is submitted.
Nuff said re rudiculous white render.
