Princes Street town house conversion hits planning
Hazeldene House Ltd and 3DReid Architects have submitted plans for the conversion and extension of the B-listed 131-133 Princes Street to form modern office accommodation.

Combining three former classical town houses with ground floor retail the scheme will reinstate lost dormer windows to the Princes Street façade with an extended staircase built in the rear courtyard to improve access to upper floors.

This led to the selection of u-channel glass in a matt opaque finish in a bid to deliver light without impinging upon neighbouring properties and inclusion of a stone-faced plant room within the footprint of an existing lean-to extension.

In their design statement the architects wrote: “The extended stair in the courtyard enables the circulation and viability of the upper floors of the Princes Street buildings as office spaces.

“The re-instated dormer windows on Princes Street facade are reinforcing the visual link and connection with the Edinburgh Castle and the Princes Gardens, whilst introducing daylight necessary to make the top floor habitable.”
A contemporary approch will be taken to the north whilst the front elevation's historic appearance will be restored

For a moment I thought the render was the front...
Good idea though; again, the more people living and working in the city proper, the better.
