Abertay Housing Association progress ‘flagship’ Dundee housing
Abertay Housing Association has brought forward plans to build 60 flats for social rent to designs by Barton Willmore together with associated public realm enhancements at Finavon Street, within the Fintry area of Dundee.

Supplanting 54 ‘Orlit’ style modular concrete houses dating from the 1940’s, demolished in 2011, the scheme will create a series of distinct areas along by strengthening the urban frontage to Fintry Drive and Finavon Street together with a signature block where the two intersect.

In their design statement Barton Willmore wrote: “The focus is on attractive, simple proportions both in the form of the buildings and in the development of the elevations where we have proposed generous well-proportioned windows arranged in ‘classic’ rhythms. This is combined with a simple palette of robust materials to create a family of buildings which complement each other and create a distinct character and identity.”

Incorporating a mix of flatted, semi-detached and terraced properties the scheme will be predominantly composed of brick with areas of zinc cladding and white render panels.
The development has been designed to accommodate three key character areas

Good. Seems like a huge improvement on the previous development from the 40s.
