Green light sought for creation of £2.25m Little France Park
Optimised Environment s has prepared a planning application to form a new area of parkland on behalf of Edinburgh and Lothians Greenspace Trust.

Little France Park will be carved out of existing open space to knit together ongoing development to the south and east of the city, which has seen rapid development around Craigmillar and the Bioquarter.

This will also establish a green corridor stretching from the city into Midlothian whilst offering a new network of paths, cycleways and habitats spread across 45 hectares. Throughout this work consideration has been given to maintain and enhance existing views to Craigmillar Castle, Edinburtgh Castle and Arthurs Seat.

Suds ponds at the heart of the park will also be enhanced with total costs estimated at £2.25m in a programme of phased work through to 2019.

How can creating a park cost £2.25m? Apart from the cost of the land, and I assume it was 'donated' by the developers of the thousands of houses near by, what costs are there? SUDS ponds and grass take up most of the site and existing woods, so no planting costs?

This is great news, get it done!
Would be perfect for the community there as well as patients at the hospital to relax in and enjoy.
I would imagine cleaning up the area and creating paths, etc on such a large peice of land is where the cost cones from? Although I'm not sure. Still it's a brilliant idea.
