Shawbridge infill housing presented to planning

Arranged across two separate blocks the brick fronted scheme will be ‘cranked’ to follow the curvature of the street, maintaining the four storey building line along Shawbridge Street whilst respecting the spires of the former Pollokshaws United Free Church.
In a supporting statement the architects observed: “The elevation design has progressed through a series of studies that focused on creating strong blocks with carved out terraces, balconies and close entrances.
“Developed in layers, the fenestration pattern is organised in a playful grid pattern, avoiding formal symmetries. Deep window reveals help to accentuate the layered facade and enhance the sculptural design approach.
“Perforated brick patterns identify close entrances and add a subtle change to the facade texture allowing dappled light to filter into close spaces and outdoor terrace areas.”
Stepping down in height to enclose a newly formed public square to the south with an open terrace and recessed balconies used to define corner elements the project will also reintroduce an historic street connecting Cogan and Shawbridge Street's.

It says something when the cardboard models look better than the artist's impression of the actual buildings. I thought that we had learned lessons about flat roofs, public housing and the weather but seemingly not........

I really like this. Flat roofs can work really well but they have to have the right drainage and materials.
