Moxy Hotel roll-out extends to Glasgow’s Collegelands
Vastint, the property arm of IKEA, has staged a public consultation into a proposed 180 bed Moxy hotel at Collegelands, Glasgow, one of twenty of the Marriot owned hotel brands UK destinations.

Conforming to an existing master plan for the 47,000sq/m site the project will occupy a footprint of just 8,000sq/m including ground floor reception, lounge, bar and buffet space alongside new landscaping and a public square which will double as a taxi drop off area.
In a statement the design team wrote: “The final product has a characteristic and eye-catching front façade, with firm vertical divisions that then echo throughout the building, broken by horizontal stripes.

“The glazed ground floor of Moxy responds to the glazed ground floor of the adjacent office building. By opening the square in front the fact that the buildings are so close to each other is not that noticeable.”

Designed in-house by Vastint the scale, height, massing and materials are still to be finalised ahead of a formal planning application expected within the next few months.

Moxy are also delivering a 230-bed hotel at Edinburgh Airport and a 200-bed development close to Aberdeen Airport.

Someone go tell them they've orientated it the wrong way it it doesn't comply with the masterplan? also, a touch too close to the office block?

Moxy reads boxy...boring, bland, banal...another disappointing contribution to Glasgow.
