Glasgow’s Springfield Quay set for makeover
Threesixty Architecture has submitted a planning application for a programme of façade and public realm improvements to Glasgow’s Springfield Quay leisure park following its purchase by Strathclyde Pension Fund.

The makeover will include new wayfinding, lighting and rationalised pedestrian and traffic routes to streamline the chaotic environment of the park at present with illuminated vertical aluminium/acrylic slats affixed to existing facades.

Kieron Goodman, director of Threesixty Architecture, said: “On a modest budget Threesixty Architecture have proposed a high impact branding strategy, appropriate to the leisure use. A bold and prominent lighting and signage ribbon ‘knits’ various offers together around the north and north-west edge. This incorporates new leisure units and a new public space that aims to draw pedestrians to an area that has historically struggled with unit visibility and success.

“Proposed waterfront 'lantern' signage totems will offer a sculptural and signifying cue to the Quay from the city centre.”

Could we get some underground parking or multi storie ca parks, and get some desity or streets. Too many ugly car parks.

Why have the public realm facing the car park? Why not try and embrace the river like other cities do? The restaurants and eating areas should front on to what is a hugely important asset and would make a slightly nicer eating experience than looking over a carpark...

Looks good but I agree with earlier comment that at lest some of the improvement should be showcasing our River. Whole sections of the River front need developed and not with low density builds. The city should be encouraging more residents back to the city from outwith the city creating new districts along the front on both sides of the river from the Squinty bridge up to Govan and Clydebank. The River an is an asset which we are not fully appreciating.
