Work gets underway at £12.4m Bishopbriggs primary
Morgan Sindall has commenced delivery of a £12.4m primary school at Bishopbriggs on Kirriemuir Road, on behalf of East Dunbartonshire Council.

The 560 roll Archial Norr designed school will include a nursery for 145 pre-school children and follows hot on the heels of a new primary in Kirkintilloch, both of which will share a common form with a linear arrangement of partially open classroom spaces fronting an activity space.

Built on ground to the south of the existing school the ‘cranked’ plan seeks to angle away from existing homes.

In their design statement the architects observed: “The building is essentially a 'U' shaped building form which is open to the northern aspect. The main teaching block runs east - west along the southern portion of the site. The new nursery is located on the western wing, closest to the site access, whilst the school administration facilities and halls are located in the eastern wing, looking east over the open playing fields of Bishopbriggs Academy.

“The main entrance itself terminates the curving access pathway from the west. The sports facilities are housed in the eastern wing, adjacent to the sports pitch which is located in the north of the site, well away from most of the adjacent residential neighbours.”

Faced with brick, curtain walling, render and vertical metal cladding the new school is scheduled to open in time for the September intake.
