Plans tabled for regeneration of Edinburgh’s Grassmarket

Incorporating a hotel, homes, student accommodation, art hub and public square the scheme will open up an existing pend through the creation of a series of new routes and courtyards which will re-establish historic street patterns.
In their design statement Fletcher Joseph said: “Each built element has been designed to respond to the surrounding forms, referencing the varied architectural languages to the east of the site while addressing the overbearing nature of Argyle House and western edge. The overall form of each building is based on feu lines, characteristic of the old town, articulated through façade indentation, massing and protection of key views.”
Following community feedback an existing nightclub on the site will be incorporated into the scheme with further comments invited through January.

Generic setback'd, parapet'd nonsense. Given the visibility from the Castle, hopefully the planners will insist that the architects work a bit harder on the roofscape.
