HOK lead development of £40m University of Glasgow Research Hub
The University of Glasgow has appointed HOK architects and engineering firm WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff to develop a £40m research hub at its Gilmorehill campus following a competitive tender.

Designed to draw together staff and students from a range of disciplines to enhance research the facility forms part of a larger masterplan for the 31 acre campus.

John Cox, WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff senior technical director for building structures said: “This is a significant win for us as it strengthens our ongoing relationship with the University of Glasgow as well as raising our engineering skills profile in the education sector across Scotland and the UK as a whole.”

Speaking to Urban Realm Ann Allen, the university’s development director, said: “We want the new buildings to be statement buildings, I’m not going to comment at this stage on the scale of each of the buildings because that’s the work that the master planners are looking at – but this isn’t about infill. This isn’t just about slotting buildings inbetween other buildings.”

Page/Park developed the campus development framework, which was approved in July 2014. Since then the university has appointed Aecom with 7N Architects to lead on the master planning and Arup to lead on the infrastructure work. HLM meanwhile have appointed to lead the design team for the learning and teaching hub and HOK have been appointed to lead the design team for a research hub.

A consultation process for the master plan is expected to get underway shortly.
