New Royal High School hotel images published
The developer behind plans to develop a hotel within and around Edinburgh’s historic Royal High School building has released a fresh batch of images revealing how the scheme could look, as a public relations battle heats up in advance of a planning decision.

Overseen by Hoskins Architects the scheme is going head to head with competing plans to turn the landmark into a new home for St Mary’s Music School, a scheme to which Richard Murphy Architects has been assigned.

New insertions will be faced with undulating copper and glass with landscaped terraces offering panoramic aspects across the city with the Thomas Hamilton designed school remaining at the heart of the scheme.

Edinburgh City Council has given its backing to the plan but planners have yet to give the final go-ahead.
Backers of the hotel plan have commissioned a poll suggesting widespread public support for their plan

Two alternative takes on the same site in the same day. That last photo is certainly something...the palace, the parliament, the site under review + calton hill, that science centre thingy, arthur's seat, canongate graveyard...

screw it just build the hotel

The more I see of this the more I like it. Hope Embra planners have the cojones to back this.

It's starting to grow on me.
But would still be improved by losing a storey, and not being a hotel ( or just changing the brief to make a wee bit more open )

Pah! what does the public know... Images are better but still completely the wrong use for such an important building...

Nice use of drones on the last picture though!

#6. You need to get out more Steve Steve. No need for a drone just look out from the top of the Nelson Monument. Lovely view and well worth the climb, you should try it sometime.

The more I see of this the more I don't like it. What are those wee ponds on the roof all about? Trout fishing?
What are the wee slivers of landscaping about at intermediate deck level? Looks really badly considered.
Why don't the walls line up? It looks like a badly built child's toy....ah! that is Architecture!
Why so many rooms when the deal with the council is structured on basis of 120 rooms?
The real question is nothing to do with the planners: It is...do the Planning Committee have the have the cojones to refuse this and back the music school?
