Strathclyde Architecture students shortlisted in Italian architecture comp
Two second year architecture students at the University of Strathclyde have made it to a final shortlist of seven in an international architectural competition based in Rome.

Seeing off 100s of entrants, including professional competition, Marco Zaccaria and Veronika Desova won through with their plans for a Museum of Cinema outside Rome’s Colosseum.

Rome - Architecture and Cinema was organised by Italian architectural promoter START with a view to honouring the city’s history as a cinematic backdrop, charting the evolving portrayal of the city on film through the ages.

Studio design tutor David MacRitchie said: “This is an amazing achievement for students in year two. They have gained recognition in an international competition against practising architects from around the world whilst continuing their full time academic study”.

Their approach focusses on the use of film by projecting scenes directly onto semi-transparent fabric partitions, enabling visitors to gradually navigate inwards away from the noise and chaos of the city outside.

At its heart a cloud-like central space is envisaged, protected from the elements by a skin of semi-transparent plaster panels.

There are a lot of dedicated and talented architectural students working at Strathclyde University, so it is great to see Marco and Veronika taking on a competition like this and making the shortlist.
I hope it inspires their peers across Scotland and helps them realise how good they are. SEDA were also delighted that Marco won Strathclyde's KJ Award 2015 and his work, together with fellow students from all of Scotland's five schools of architecture, are currently on show as part of a (very) small exhibition at the Lighthouse.
Wish you both the very best with the second stage.

Let us not be kidding ourselves here - Atmospheric visuals, yes, poetic work absolutely...However, between the idea and the reality...a year out in Keppies looms and for 99% of us without the breeding and connections, for the rest of our years thereafter.
