Purcell mastermind office conversion of B-listed Parkhead School

This work will transform the building into flexible office space and meeting rooms for local enterprises, returning window openings to their original configuration and creating a new glazed link entrance space in the process.
In their design statement Purcell remarked: “The new link building will be fully glazed at the street elevation and adopt a planar glass structure. The building will have a single ply roof and metal cladding to the rear elevation. The glass link is conceived to provide a lightweight connection between the existing building and allow wide views of the ashlar wall as a backdrop to the new space.”
Most internal finishes will be removed owing to the prevalence of dry rot with decorative cornices and mouldings retained where possible.

Highest commendations to all involved. It now increasingly feels like a small miracle when a fabulous piece of built heritage like this gets saved in the Scottish urban landscape.

Great news. This is a perfect example of what should be getting done with all of the redundant Victorian schools across Glasgow. Fantastic buildings and an integral part of the city's built environment. Like this example in Parkhead.
