Design team hopefuls assemble for £66m Burrell project
A number of design teams have been assembled to pursue the prestigious £66m contract to overhaul Glasgow’s Burrell Collection, Urban Realm understands.

Architects are being sought by Glasgow Life to remodel and refurbish the existing museum as part of project manager led bids, which necessitate teaming up with a quantity surveyor to qualify.

The full make-up of these teams is still to be confirmed but it is believed they include Gardiner & Theobald with McAslan & Partners as well as Faithful & Gould who have teamed up with Purcell Architects.

Other collaborations believed to be in the mix include Turned & Townsend who have paired up with Rieach & Hall and RLF who have assembled Stallan-Brand, Elder & Cannon and Dress for the Weather.

One practice notable by its absence is Page\Park who are understood to be preoccupied with their work to bring the Glasgow School of Art back to life.

The winning team will be tasked with installing a new roof and high performance glazing to stem damaging leaks at the cultural attraction. Work will also see construction of two additional floors of exhibition space and a remodelling of basement storerooms to open them up for public access.

Brilliant Project. Would love to do it, but Reiach and Hall are not in the T&T team.

I'd love to be reading names like Caruso St John, Tony Fretton, Chipperfield, Sergison Bates, 6a, Zumthor (not likely!), Pawson, Siza etc etc. Can't we attract the best?
Should be a great project though and a great building to work on. Deserves to be world class. A real opportunity for someone.

I love this building. Please do not cock this up, architect-types.

How about spending the money moving the collection to the city centre where 5x as many people would actually go to see it?

Charlie_ have you been to The Burrell - the setting couldn't be more perfect ! To have the natural light and the full glazing backing onto the woods is one of the most perfect places to view the collection. In my humble opinion. (and the park is very well served by public transport)

Not to mention the fact that many of the exhibits are incorporated into the building itself.
