CBC to undertake £4.5m Russell Institute revamp
Renfrewshire Council has appointed contractor CBC and architects Elder & Cannon to undertake a £4.5m refurbishment of Paisley’s A-listed Russell Institute to transform it onto office space for Skills Development Scotland.

The former health centre has lain empty since 2011 before the local authority acquired it with a view to turning the historic building into a training and employment hub.

Renfrewshire Council Leader Mark Macmillan said: “The Russell Institute is one of the jewels in Paisley’s architectural crown and has been one of the most distinctive buildings in the town centre for the best part of a century.

“We are thrilled to have been able to pull together a deal to bring it back to life and are glad the project is moving forward as planned.
“Paisley town centre has the second-highest concentration of listed buildings of anywhere in Scotland and we are committed to keeping them alive for future generations.”

Refurbishment works are expected to take around a year to complete.

Good to see this re-used. Designed by James Steel Maitland. Canadian pilot in the First World War. Designed lots of other bits and pieces throughout Renfrewshire including the eastern half of Paisley abbey!
I remember being inside this building in the early 60's! Yo!
