Trump unveils plans for next phase of Menie development
US tycoon Donald Trump has unveiled plans for the next phase of development at Trump International Golf Links, Aberdeenshire, with a series of proposal of application notices for a Covell Matthews designed ballroom and additional hotel accommodation adjoining the historic MacLeod Hosue; including new leisure facilities and staff accommodation.

Announcing the ‘incredible’ plans Trump promised further applications for additional leisure facilities and housing on the coastal site later in the year.

Robert Collier, chief executive of Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce, said: “On top of the championship links course, five-star accommodation and a new clubhouse opening in May, the plans for a second course, banqueting facilities, infrastructure and a refreshed master plan are confirmation that investment in the site continues to build a valuable asset for the region.”

Trump halted further development work at Menie in 2013 citing fears that an offshore windfarm could blight views but the development is now back in full swing after lead developer Vattenfall announced it was no longer able to finance the project.

Previous phases of development announced for the controversial course include a Covell Matthews designed clubhouse and Acanthus DF penned hotel. The estate has been master planned by Gareth Hoskins Architects.

I'm struggling to see what is wrong with this. It's sympathetic and sits very well.
The trouble is....if you produced this as a student project at Uni you would probably get a fail. It is the University education system that is to blame for much of the insensitive architecture we see around us today.

It looks like someone sat on it - if you must slavishly copy the existing building then at least get it right.

Define Pastiche - this design.

Oh dear, somebody thinks it's 'pastiche' - how terrible! Let's copy some modernist building from anywhere in the world instead!

#9 - if it was a copy of a modernist building, it would still be 'pastiche'. Illiteracy is just as bad as poor design

You know fine well, being a fully paid up member of the modernist concrete lovin' brigade that the term 'pastiche' is a term used -- derogatorily-- for buildings with a traditional aesthetic. When your clique build stuff copying yer idols -- Corbusier etc, it's called "brave, edgy and forward-thinking'. Even though it's not.

I'm quite a fan of building in a traditional style but the "turning the corner" into a full height bay window, and the treatment of the patio/base seem pretty clunky

Don't pretend to know my likes to further your own blinkered views. Poor design is poor design no matter what 'style' it is dressed up in.
But of course you would know that if you weren't just as biased as the "concrete lovin' brigade" you constantly decry.
