Johnstone Town hall readied for grand unveil
Renfrewshire Council are preparing to open the doors to Johnstone Town Hall this week, following completion of construction work at the £14.5m civic building.

A phased opening of the glass and stone structure will begin from Monday 23 March, offering a range of facilities including a theatre, library, café and conference rooms all arranged off a central ‘high street’.

Accommodation is also provided for Police Scotland and Macmillan Cancer Support with Renfrewshire Council offices and a dance studio located on the upper level.

Councillor James Harte said: “The project has been completed on budget and on schedule and we are thrilled to finally be able to open the doors.

“Johnstone residents have watched the new building rise from the ground over the past two years and this week will be their first chance to have a look around.

“The council has made a massive financial commitment to the project to help drive the regeneration of Johnstone and the building has changed the face of the entire town centre.”

The town hall was designed on-house by Renfrewshire Council and delivered by Holmes Miller and BAM.

This looks like a tidy build of a fairly tidy little building. I'd be interested to see what kind of civic space lies in front of this. From the images above it seems a bit spartan .

Excellent to see this investment take form .

looks awful.....designed by a 5 year old....Typical council

Does not integrate with the town and has caused a lot of degeneration of existing retail prior to any possible regeneration!

Most important part about the context is Ludovic square and the building has not nothing addressed it...

The Architect involved has missed (overlooked) important aspects of the town context...

@#3 Spook
What specifically about the building do you feel has not addressed the immediate or wider context?

@#Roddy
Does not address the lovely public square...it almost turns its back on it.

As for the gesture at the Marriage suite.....horrendous.

If available a wee site plan would be handy to put it in context. UR?

What's your point? That it happens to look like another building? I don't get it.
