Dundee housing scheme to heal gap site
Peter Inglis Architects have submitted plans to build a flatted development on North Isla Street, Dundee, on the site of a former access point to an industrial yard behind the offices of Radio Tay.

These will continue in use, served by another access route to the north, allowing construction of eight new homes on the tight 0.063 hectare site.

The five storey build will incorporate a bicycle store and lift with wraparound balconies offering views to the east.

In an accompanying design statement Peter Inglis wrote: “The elevations would be clad in a mixture of facing brick and render, to give a domestic scale and set it apart from the large panels on the Radio Tay building.

“This building will complete the street frontage.”

Always commendable when someone attends to such ugly gap sites; sites where the economics can be tough. We know that infill development, appropriate and sensitive to the existing place, can have wholly disproportionate positive impacts on the entire locality. Best of luck to Peter Inglis.

That should prove to be a good companion to the Radio Tay building.
