Construction work has got underway on the £745m Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route, the largest road scheme presently being delivered anywhere in the UK.

This will entail construction of 58km of new road between Balmedie and Tipperty, including a dozen new junctions and 14 miles of slip roads.

Cabinet secretary for infrastructure Keith Brown said: “Our carefully planned management of the scheme’s procurement will see junctions around Aberdeen airport finished next year, the Balmedie-Tipperty section of the A90 finished ahead of schedule in spring 2017, and completion of the entire scheme by winter that year, some six months ahead of the original schedule.”

A consortium comprising comprising Balfour Beatty, Galliford Try and Carillion are delivering the project; including two new crossings of the River Dee and Don.
