A £350k footbridge in Falkirk has opened to the public as a replacement for the historic swing bridge crossing which previously spanned the site – a lonely finial of which has been retained to commemorate the former walkway.

Dorrator Bridge has been developed by Falkirk Council in tandem with Central Scotland Green Network Trust to improve access between Camelon and Larbert and Helix Park and is part of a wider programme of public realm improvements on the six mile long Carron Loop network of footpaths.

A 700m network of access paths, designed by CSGNT, has also been created to complement the bridge.

Councillor Dr Craig R Martin, spokesperson for the Environment at Falkirk Council, said: “The new bridge and path network will bring real benefits for the communities around the Carron with improved access to walking and cycling facilities. There are also excellent links to the wider path network which now connects a number of local communities while also opening up access to greenspace including the Helix.”
