£12m health centre to anchor Muirhouse regeneration
The ongoing regeneration of Muirhouse, Edinburgh, is continuing apace with the submission of plans for a £12m health centre by the North West Edinburgh partnership Centre.

Incorporating a GP surgery, dentist and child health services the build forms the latest stage in a master plan for the area which calls for the delivery of 700 homes.

Designed by Holmes Miller it will be situated within the existing Pennywell Shopping centre, where 34 new homes are poised for imminent delivery.

In their design statement the architects say: “The new three storey building wraps around a central landscaped courtyard, providing a calming outlook with the main public ‘street and waiting areas taking advantage of it.

“Externally the building will be clad in a buff facing brick with pc concrete wall panels, column and beam features contributing the civic presence the building demands and differentiate from the adjoining proposed housing.”

Construction should begin later this year for completion by 2016.

Can a kind soul explain the £12,000,000.00 price tag?

The planning application says:

" Demolition of existing 2x buildings on site, formation of new road linking Pennywell Gdns/Muirhouse Cr + new parking on Pennywell Gdns. Reconfigured access to service yard on Pennywell Rd + access to new car park. New 3x storey building providing GP + Primary Care facilities with associated support + office accommodation."

That does not seem like twelve million to me.

Sven ... Are you a cost consultant? Looks fairly large to me ... three storey ... nice brick ... Maybe you live in Kingspanland ... I'd rather start with a bigger budget on any of my projects !
