Premier Inn announce plans for fourth new Edinburgh hotel
Budget hotel chain Premier Inn is continuing its aggressive expansion drive by setting its sights on a vacant Edinburgh office block for conversion into a 127 bedroom venue – the fourth to be announced for the city in recent months.

Designed by Holmes Miller and Will Rudd Davidson the £17m scheme see conversion of redundant office space 44 York Place together with the addition of an additional floor of accommodation

In their design statement the architects stated: “The proposals strive to maintain this quiet lightness and simplicity whilst adding a richness of material and a sensitive approach to it’s relationship with both neighbours. The dropping of the existing shoulder height parapet helps to refine the overall proportion of the building, whilst the change of pace in the elevation treatment at ground floor level
helps to sit the building well within the site and gives it a relationship to it’s urban setting.”

Elsewhere Premier Inn are progressing plans to develop two hotels at Caltongate alongside a scheme on Rose Street and have only just completed a new Glasgow hotel at Pacific Quay.
Engineers are confident that the reduced load of lighter cladding will allow an extra floor to be added without the need for structural modifications
