Public consultation planned for Dundee’s Western Gateway
Springfield Properties has announced it is to stage a public consultation into plans to build a £150m housing scheme on the outskirts of Dundee this Wednesday.

Western Gateway would deliver up to 600 homes on green field land in the South Gray area of the city, an area earmarked for housing for over a decade – but which could now see construction begin as early as this year.

It will see creation of three distinct ‘villages’ off Dykes off Gray Road at South Gray, Swallow Village and Liff South in a phased programme of development.

Commenting on the consultation Springfield land manager Sandra Lindsay said: “We are committed to this project, which has been hanging around for a long time. We have had a lot of discussions with the council and with landowners and are intending to submit the first planning application for the development at the end of March.”

The consultation will take place at Dundee Contemporary Arts on Wednesday before moving to the Doubletree Hotel on Thursday from noon.

What makes these "villages" into real villages? How many shops, pubs etc are to be included for the social glue in these, otherwise, urban overspill developments?
