Edinburgh Airport showcases new terminal entrance
Edinburgh Airport has unveiled its vision for a new-look entrance building as part of its £25m expansion of the main terminal.

Built on the site of an existing coach park the 6,000sq/m extension will move terminal access closer to a new tram stop and incorporates a new security area, expanded retail and a business centre.

Designed by Archial the new extension has been fast-tracked from planning to implementation in a matter of months and is expected to be fully operational by 2015.

It is the first phase of a five-year, £150m, investment plan.

It looks strikingly like Prestwick Airport's current terminal building, only smaller

looks like a giant accordion to me. If we have a parliament based on upturned boats why not an airport on a musical instrument.

Dreadful on all fronts.

A cheap looking curtain walling system used with little consideration. The staggered facade thing was in vogue once but has been rattled out a little too often for comfort over the last decade and I get that purple is a corporate colour but is that really any excuse to plaster it over the front of the building???

oh dear, this is utterly embarrassing.....looks like a less than mediocre industrial shed. Very poor indeed.

This is worryingly poor. Both this and the scheme for the expansion of the main terminal require to be reviewed and a higher quality design produced more respectful to the original Edinburgh airport. Surely if this is Scotland's gateway to the world then this requires a world class standard of architecture! Where are ADS and the local planning authorities on this, as a Scottish architect I'd be saddened to arrive here when other European terminals set such a high benchmark.

#6 hits it on the head - this is desperately poor and well below the standard we should be presenting "where Scotland meets the world". Need to do much, much better.

I couldn't agree more with Abc Def. Contrast this with Copenhagen airport!

The airport is probably the most visible / highest profile new building that many visitors will experience. This proposal sadly reflects the quality standard of much new architecture in Scotland.

It's just a flat pack that's all with colour surely for £25m a better looking building could be built as it does not go with what's already there if it's Spannish owned then Spain would not have this as I have seen a lot off Spain's airports and this is nothing a bloody flat pack where's the design features may be full of marble inside I hope but outside should be like the Scottish parliament obscured art hectares...??
