Skye Gaelic language and culture centre wins planning
Highland Council has awarded planning consent for a National Centre for Gaelic Language and Culture at Sleat on the Isle of Skye, to be operated by Sabhal Mor Ostaig.

Drawn up jointly by Holmes Miller and Rural Design the building will be known as the Administration, Research and Knowledge Exchange (ARKE) and is the first phase of a wider 40 acre Kilbeg Village master plan – the first new village to be built in the Highlands for over a century.

Finished in white render, with a natural slate roof and areas of Caithness stone, the two storey building is designed to have presence from the main road whilst permitting views past to the coast.

Commenting on the scheme ARKE project director said: “It is partly an education building with classrooms, and partly for local enterprise with both offices and craft rooms suitable for local businesses to rent.  There are also research offices for the college staff.”
