Broomhill villa extension unveiled

Broomhill villa extension unveiled
Ellson Buchanan Architects have unveiled the refurbishment and extension of a late Victorian sandstone villa in Broomhill, Glasgow.

Comprising a sandstone clad extension forming an open plan kitchen/dining area the intervention also accommodates a new link to the existing garage to create a home gym and study.

This entailed demolition of an existing outbuilding and retention of its original stonework, ensuring that the modern addition retained the quality materials present in the main home.

Built in collaboration with David Narro Associates the scheme sees supporting columns strategically positioned within the timber kit and clerestorey glazing to maximise views and space.

Refurbishment works to the remainder of the property included new gardens, installation of underfloor heating and replacement of sash and case windows. Cornicing and ceiling roses were also reinstated and roof, stone and woodwork repairs carried out.

Building work completed in February 2013.
