A new competition for young architects has been launched by Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park which has stumped up £500k to cover the cost of three low cost, high design, installations along scenic roads in the area.

The Scottish Scenic Routes Project is geared specifically toward generating work and acting as a creative outlet for a new generation of young architects and takes its inspiration from a similar project in Norway.

Phase one work will see three pilot sites developed by March 2014 via architectural competition, delivering interventions ranging from viewpoints to picnic areas and bird hides - with the expectation that the programme will subsequently be extended further.

Open to all recently qualified architects, landscape architects and post Part II students the scheme will be overseen by an appointed team of consultants who will also run a mentoring process and ensure delivery.

Anyone interested in participating is invited to attend a launch event at the Carrochan, Balloch, on 28 August, where additional information about the process and the initial sites will be given.

The initiative is being backed by The Wood Studio at Edinburgh Napier University which undertook a fact finding mission to Norway back in 2010 to progress the idea.
