Twin secondary schools handed over by Cooper Cromar
The latest batch of secondary schools to be completed under the Scottish Government’s Schools for the Future programme have been handed over by Cooper Cromar.

Eastwood High School and The Lasswade Centre, are now in possession of East Renfrewshire Council and Midlothian Council respectively – culmination of the first joint schools procurement project by two Scottish councils.

Located in Newton Mearns, Eastwood High sees teaching spaces wrapped around a bright central atrium that combines learning and social spaces. Elsewhere, new indoor sports facilities including a dance studio, gym, and large games hall with viewing gallery, have been incorporated to an existing sports building.

Its counterpart in Poltonhall, to the south of Bonyrigg, conjoins a new learning environment with community facilities such as two sports halls, dance studios, fitness suites, a 25m pool, squash courts, conference suites, and a new Gymnastics Academy.

Commenting on this latter project Maurice McCann, project manager, Midlothian Council commented: “Cooper Cromar has produced a building that is inviting, uplifting and cleverly executed, linking a bright and stimulating learning environment with an assortment of community facilities that will inspire and benefit all who use it.”

Strategic use of coloured paint obviously goies a long way to lifting the quality of these spaces.
