Refurbishment completes on Rutherglen’s Greenhill Court
A major refurbishment project has been completed at Greenhill Court, Rutherglen, by Cooper Cromar on behalf of South Lanarkshire Council in a bid to provide attractive, long-term housing for tenants.

Situated off the Main Street the project entailed the overhaul of 172 properties spread across five blocks of seven storeys, each of which had suffered from slow decline over the past 20 years.

A year long programme of works saw insulated render and rainscreen systems applied to external walls together with the design, fabrication and installation of a new roofing system.

New lighting, security, ventilation and heating systems were also installed.

Local resident Kathleen McGurk commented: “It is absolutely wonderful. It is like having a new home without having to move. It really is the best of both worlds - I have a lovely-looking, warm home with great facilities while staying in the place I want to live.”

As overclads go that really isn't bad - GHA please take note!

Are you kidding Egbert, this is truly awful. The majority of the overcladding works to tower blocks and alike around glasgow is at least honest and simple, in some cases even elegant, however this seems like irrelevant shape making, clumsy and out of proportion at best. My theory also is that if it is ugly, which it is, then it will be hated just like the building it is overcladding, when it becomes weathered, worn at tired.

The proportions look ok to me, David. I'm just relieved they didn't go and plonk a hat on top of it!

If that's the standard of architecture / aesthetics that's good enough for you Egbert, then fair enough.

There appears to be a pretty significant 'hat' on top of it so I'm not sure what you're alluding to.

David I wouldnt say its any worse than some of the rubbish the private sector put up. Was it not housing developers that started this plastic cladding craze. Anyway, I agree a softy softy approach would have been better but in reality, you cant put sugar on a turd and call it chocolate .

You are all arguing about the state of the building when people are being stabbed and robbed at the place.

These blocks need demolished not refurbished. The three smaller blocks facing main st and town hall are a disgrace on such a beautiful st and should be demolished too. Built in the early 70s , they have not dated well. I am sure better use could be made of the space, building something which would compliment the main st and town hall.
