Fife Council backs new St Andrews college
A new-build college campus is likely to be built on a greenfield site on the outskirts of St Andrews after the £40m project secured the backing of Fife Council.

A pre-application notice has already been filed for a site at Pipeland Farm ahead of a full application later in the summer - which will detail plans to create a unified campus to replace existing operations which are split across two separate sites in the town.

It culminates years of wrangling over the selection of an appropriate spot to locate the facility but the coast is not yet entirely clear as opponents are likely to attempt to block or delay the project at planning stage.

Land at Pipelands will facilitate the creation of school and playing fields on a single unified site without the need for a decant. Car parking could also be shared with an adjacent hospital, although access roads would require upgrading and extending.

The earliest possible completion date has been set for 2015.

This article is somewhat misleading. I thought at first that they were building a 'college', as in a 'further education college' in St Andrews. Instead, they are establishing a new site for Madras College which is the local secondary school.
