AFL and S&P architects announce merger
AFL Architects and S&P Architects have announced that they are to merge their operations within a new single entity, AFLS+P, providing the expanded practice with greater geographic reach throughout the UK.

At present S&P is based in Dublin, Glasgow, London and Nottingham whilst AFL has offices in Manchester and London employing over 100 staff between them, all of whom will remain in post.

Plans to open a new office in Birmingham are also being progressed to handle to handle an increasingly international workload in the likes of Russia, Azerbaijan and Doha.

In recent times the practice has been involved in several high profile projects, notably a refurbishment of Edinburgh’s Royal Commonwealth Pool and the London 2012 Aquatics Centre.

Keith Ashton, former director of S&P and now one of the six principals of AFLS+P, said: “S&P is a well-established, 22-year old business with an extensive track record in sports and leisure.  This merger with AFL Architects adds to our skill base and allows us to offer more services to our existing clients internationally.”

John Roberts, of AFL and now a fellow principal of AFLS+P, added: “We have been working collaboratively on projects with S&P for three years.  Now, with a highly experienced board, we have become one of the largest architectural practices in our specialist sector, we will embrace new opportunities, seek to drive best practice and innovation in the industry and continue to offer an excellent service to our clients.”

Three other former AFL colleagues, Martin Morton, Phil Osborne and Garry Rowlands, will join Roberts and Ashton in the new management structure with S&P’s Peter Simpson completing the board of directors.
