Bishopbriggs Morrison’s plan thrown out

Designed by Bradford Robertson Architects the scheme would have occupied the site of the former Bishopbriggs High School behind a screen of planting.
Car parking was to have been moved back from Kirkintilloch Road to create a ‘civic space’ for public events but councillors were unconvinced by the wider impact on the local economy.
Councillors opted to go against the advice of their planners by 15 to 7.
Planning convener and North Bishopbriggs councillor Billy Hendry said: "It became apparent that the new store would not link in well with the town centre.
"I felt it would have a detrimental effect on the amenity of the local area and felt it inappropriate that the service area would back on to an area of residential housing occupied by elderly people."
Morrison’s already occupy a supermarket in the adjacent Triangle Shopping Centre.

Guts ? Perhaps, however before long Bishopbriggs will start to slide further downhill like a poor mans Kirkintilloch. Will East Dumbartonshire Council invest in the town centre ? Not a chance, because despite having some of the central belts wealthiest areas they have no money.

I just hope the councillors understand that Bishopbriggs cross still needs some sort of redevelopment and begin to investigate other schemes.
