Inaugural Cairngorms National Park design award winners named
A diverse trio of new build schemes have been named as the winners of the first ever design award staged specifically to recognise exemplar design within the Cairngorm National Park.

56 entries were received in total for the competition each of which was judged based on their reflection of the Park’s sustainable design guide.

The three overall winners were Neil Sutherland Architects Cairngorm Brewery, Aviemore; 7N Architects New House at Easter Tombain and the Lazy Duck Woodman's Hut, built by Rob Clarke and Dave Robson.

Commenting on the winners judges chair, architect Roddy Langmuir said: “The really valuable part of design quality is not the more obvious, superficial, qualities of materials and surfaces but how well a building fits its intended purpose and how well it relates this purpose to the BIG landscape of the Park. Our award winners are exemplary in showing how a passion for the place can inspire an excellent project.”

The judging panel comprised architect Ben Tindall, Roger Clegg, chairman of the Association of Cairngorms Communities, CNPA board convener Duncan Bryden and vice convener of the CNPA Planning Committee, Peter Argyle.

Disapointed & surprised that the brewary won out over the highly impressive new Aviemore Community PS.

Would agree that the Aviemore primary school was a much more interesting project than the “Garden Shed” look
