Perthshire control tower to be transformed into home for high fliers
November 27 2012
A redundant C-listed World War Two aircraft control tower is set to be given a new lease of life as an upmarket home following its acquisition by Stephen Country Homes. The developer has appointed the James Denholm Partnership to transform the ruin into a contemporary home with an asking price of £1.25m.
RAF Findo Gask, a former training airfield in Perthshire, is currently being redeveloped for residential use with the control tower as its centrepiece.
The four storey cube will offer extensive glazing to maximise its elevated panoramic views, culminating in a roof top sun room complete with a large roof terrace enclosed by glazed panels.
A new service core extension will allow for open plan living areas to be inserted into the shell of the property whilst a new triple garage will be constructed next door.
Elsewhere on the sprawling site a collection of traditionally styled country homes will be built, complete with natural slate roofs and wet dash render.
John Stephen, MD of Stephen Country Homes, said: “We are excited to be embarking on this highly-contemporary transformation which represents a key stage in the company’s evolution. Due to the success of the Clathymore development, and its national recognition, it is timely and fitting that the Control Tower now takes on a new identity befitting such an impressive collection of homes.”
The home is currently on the market via Strutt & Parker.

Stephen Homes seem to have good PR this has been on the market for well over a year now. Yes this is in the middle of a housing estate - although Stephen Homes promote it as a very upmarket one.
